Meet the Counselors- Lisa Nelson

Ms. Lisa Nelson

Ms. Nelson began her School Counseling career at Rutgers Preparatory School before joining East Brunswick High School in 2015. After 10 years at EBHS, she is excited to transition to Churchill Junior High School, where she looks forward to bringing a wealth of experience in post-secondary planning, career exploration, and student support. A graduate of Quinnipiac University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and The College of New Jersey with a master's degree in Counselor Education, Ms. Nelson also has experience in community mental health counseling and currently serves as a Residential Assistant at 180 Turning Lives Around, an agency that supports survivors of domestic violence.

Ms. Nelson believes that building safe, healthy relationships and fostering positive interpersonal skills are essential to student success. She takes an empathetic, strength-based approach to supporting students in their social, emotional, and academic growth. Her goal is to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff while creating a supportive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed academically and personally.

In her personal time, Ms. Nelson values spending time with family and friends and loves being a dog aunt to the best boy, Shark. You can often find her enjoying a day at the beach or listening to country music.
